How Could I Forget My Dear Nolly? (A Tribute to the Nigerian Movie Industry)

Nolly, nolly...for those who don't know I'm a serious nollywood fanatic - yeah ASK about me heheh :p I have a nollywood blog - it's quite random at the moment with innacurrate lists of english nollywood movies - SOON TO BE UPDATED. I've also got where you can buy movies online and some articles listed there, so check it out - aramidesnollywood.blogspot.com

Anywhoo, incase I go off on some tangent, let me just tell you now. You can watch Nigerian movies online for free at http://video.onlinenigeria.com/ You just have to sign up to be a member (at no cost) and watch away. Note - the frame of the actual media player is not large so it may be uncomfortable especially for those with bad eyesight but if you're a desperado like me, you will put your glasses on and sit infront of that computer!

Anyways back to my main gist, have you heard of Kanywood? Yeah Kanywood o, when I first heard of it I was thinking maybe Kanye or something just to find out it represents the movie industry in Northern Nigeria's capital, Kano. Imagine!! Gosh...ah well, I guess they too have to sell too. Hausa-Naija movies are not publicised that much even though they've been making them for years -- yeah I've actually seen about three or four in Hausa, subtitled in English!! I've been around...so next time you hear Kanywood, at least you can say you know what it means lol.

Milkldady Update: D'Banj won Best Artiste of the Year at the NMA's while the lifetime achievement award went to the Late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, see the rest of the winners here. Secondly, the Embellish'd fashion show has changed to a much nicer spot - it'll now be held at Central Hall, Storey's Gate, London - Westminster via St. James's Park tube station which is just minutes away from Victoria station (one stop) and Victoria is just two stops from Oxford Cirucs, still no reason why you should miss it! Check the website for more details! Adios..

Some collection you have...My take on Nollywood is somewhat subjective. I have a number of cousins and friends in the business. If I was to take an unbiased view of Nollywood, I wouldn’t score it highly, but I guess the fact that most films are so inadequately made makes it more enjoyable. But I still acclaim Nollywood – most times.

One of the major problems faced by Nigerian movie industry as by any other movies industry is the piracy but Nigeria is effected with Piracy really bad as the movie producers looses a lots of money due to piracy.
